introLEAGUE Rulebook

I. INTRODUCTION

1. Description of the introLEAGUE
The introLEAGUE is an exercise competition. The object is to score the most number of introPOINTS during the season. After Players join the introLEAGUE, teams are selected and the competition begins. Each time a Player records a workout using introPLAY's exercise tracker, he/she scores introPOINTS in that introLEAGUE. Standings are maintained both for teams and individual Players. The team and Player at the top of the standings at the end of the season are the winners.

2. Integrity of the introLEAGUE
introPLAY encourages the highest level of competitiveness, but always in a manner that demonstrates mutual respect and camraderie with fellow Players. Honest play, abiding by the rules and fairness are essential to maintain the Integrity of the introLEAGUE and to ensure enjoyment for all Players.

II. THE INTROLEAGUE

1. Stages of an introLEAGUE
There are four stages of every introLEAGUE:

  1. Starting an introLEAGUE
  2. Signups (invite other Players)
  3. The Draft (select teams)
  4. The Season
2. Starting an introLEAGUE
The Player that starts the introLEAGUE is its Chairperson. The Chairperson sets the parameters of the competition:

  1. introLEAGUE Name. A unique name used to identify the introLEAGUE
  2. Maximum Number of Players (optional). Entering a number here automatically closes signups after this number of Players has joined the introLEAGUE. Choose this option to cap the number of Players that join the introLEAGUE.
  3. Start date. Set the date the introLEAGUE begins (must be at least three days after the current date).
  4. End date. Sets the length of the season. Typical introLEAGUES run 4 to 12 weeks.
3. Receiving an Invitation
Players receiving an invitation to an introLEAGUE will be notified by email and by an alert. The Player must click to join the introLEAGUE. He/she will be unable to join once signups are closed. Players are encouraged to join an introLEAGUE as soon as possible after receiving an invitation.

4. Start Date
The introLEAGUE will start at midnight EST on the Start Date designated by the Chairperson. Players will receive an email notification informing them of the start of the introLEAGUE.

5. Scoring introPOINTS
introPOINTS are scored when a Player works out and then records that workout on introPLAY. introPOINTS will automatically be tallied and added to that Player's total score. Players are encouraged to record completed workouts as soon as possible to accurately reflect their standing within the introLEAGUE and to be as detailed as possible with time and intensity splits.

6. Winning
The introLEAGUE season ends at midnight EST on the End Date designated by the Chairperson. The team and individual Player that rank at the top of the standings are the winners.

III. CHAIRPERSON RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Prior to the Start Date
The Chairperson must manage a few aspects of the introLEAGUE prior to the Start date.

  1. Invite Players. Make sure there are enough Players before you manage the draft
  2. Manage the draft. First the Chairperson must select a number of teams. introPLAY will suggest lineups, but the Chairperson has the option to reorganize teams.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Any time before sign ups are closed, the Chairperson can change the start and end date of the season.

If the Chairperson does not manage the draft, introPLAY will randomly create two teams on the start date. It is important that the Chairperson manages the draft to ensure the desired lineups.

2. During the introLEAGUE
The Chairperson's responsibilities during the season include:

  1. Address, moderate and adjudicate disputes (see "Disputing a Workout")
  2. Promote participation and timely entry of workouts by Players
  3. Maintain the Integrity of the introLEAGUE

IV. THE INTROPOINTS SCORING SYSTEM

1. introPOINTS Defined
introPOINTS are earned for each activity based on time and intensity. Ten introPOINTS are awarded for a 'typical' length workout in that activity. That score is then adjusted up or down depending on the intensity of the activity.

The scoring system is designed to award 10 introPOINTS for completing a workout, regardless of which activity the Player chooses. This results in workouts of different lengths of time, strenuousness and difficulty occassionally scoring the same number of introPOINTS as one another.

2. The Role of Intensity
The more intense a workout is the more introPOINTS it is worth.

Intensity is a personal assessment of exertion. Since intensity is subjective, different Players may assign different levels of intensity to the same workout, based on conditioning, age, weight and other factors. A single workout can often be broken down into different intensities to accurately represent how difficult the workout was at various points in time (example would be a run that consists of a warm up, tempo and cool down).

3. Contesting the Scoring System
If a Player believes that the introPOINTS awarded for any activity is too high or too low, he/she should contact introPLAY with the details of the activity and any specific workouts being.

4. Changes to the Scoring System
introPLAY is constantly monitoring the fairness and application of the rules and scoring system for all introLEAGUES. Based on historical data and Player feedback, introPLAY may periodically institute changes to the scoring system. Any changes will be announced on the introPLAY Blog and will take effect immediately. Changes to the scoring system will not be applied retroactively and will only affect workouts that are entered after the change is made.

V. RULES / VIOLATIONS

1. Disputing a Workout
Players will be able to view other Players' recent workouts during the introLEAGUE season. If one Player disputes the validity of a workout and/or introPOINTS scored by another Player, then that dispute should be raised in the introLEAGUE Message Board. The Player raising the dispute should state the Player's name, the date(s), type(s) of workouts and introPOINTS in question and his/her reason for raising the dispute. Other Players, including the accused Player, can then indicate their opinion in the message boards.

Disputes are resolved in two ways. If the accused Player agrees with the claims of the dispute, then he/she should voluntarily modify the workout(s) in question to reflect the agreement. If no changes are made, the Chairperson is ultimately responsible for adjudicating disputes and must post his/her decision on the message board. Any changes to the workout must be made in a timely fashion after the Chairperson's ruling and that dispute is then closed.

2. Workout Hoarding
"Workout hoarding" takes place when a Player intentionally does not enter workouts over extended periods of time in order to prevent other Players from seeing his/her actual score. Workout hoarding is highly discouraged as a violation of the Integrity of the introLEAGUE. Players are encouraged to contact any Players who have not logged in recently to identify whether the absence is unintentional or workout hoarding.
